Late start but start I shall
First of all, I want to quickly say hi before I set off on my journey towards financial freedom! In short, while I have always had an interest in money, saving and investing, I haven’t had a proper chance to consistently work towards my future in that sense. While it has been nagging at the back of my head, I am not nearly smart or disciplined enough to choose buying a stock over Friday night drinks.
I have lived in a number of different countries for education purposes and while I did work for a few years some time back, I was doing that while also studying. I am now nearing 30 and am finally finished with my education, I have no plans to marry or acquire mini versions of me in the near future, and am now concentrating on earning a living full time.
While originally from a small nation in norther Europe, I am currently residing in South Korea. I did a master’s degree here and have now been working for a few months for a company mainly known in US, to locals it’s nothing, so no prestige there, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.
Get to the money stuff!
Let us get straight to the point though. I am planning on using this platform to air my dirty ‘money’ laundry and track my journey to financial freedom. Ideally I would like to retire in max 10 years. Might be impossible, but staying accountable is a great start in my book. I have small amount of assets in 3 different currencies (think just few hundred bucks for USD for example) but for clarity let me decide on EUR as the currency for this blog. I will convert everything in USD and KRW and list important values in EUR at the current conversion rate. I have done a little bit of investing, very inconsistently so I am not starting at flat out 0 but I have a long way to go.
Goals
Before I get into the dirty details, let me just list out some goals I have for 2022. Here goes:
- Save at least 50% of the income, this should either go to investing or into holding
- Update monthly progress here for accountability
- Read at least one, at least somewhat ‘finance’ related book per quarter
- Number goals for the year:
Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | |
Net worth goal | 22.000€ | 29.000€ | 36.000€ | 43.000€ |
Quarterly passive income goal | 100€ | 150€ | 225€ | 325€ |
Given that end of Q1 is only a few days away, I admit I might have been a little biased setting the goals. As see though, my goal is to continuously increase the passive income coming in every quarter, hopefully I can make a total of 800€ passively in 2022. That would be an awesome first year.
As for the current set of assets and distributions, I will get into it in the monthly and quarterly update next week.
There! First step taken, step in the right direction I sure hope. To celebrate, will grab one drink less on the coming Friday!
